Jillian Turner
I am a proud resident of East Dallas and a Dallas native. From an early age I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I have always found the world to be an amazing place and I have always wanted to pass along that amazement to others. I graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a B.A. in Art History. I have 13 years of experience in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career in Massachusetts, in a kindergarten classroom full of students from 12 different countries! While I loved my time in the Northeast, I shortly journeyed back home to Texas, stopping to teach for one year in Missouri. I have been in Dallas for the past 11 years, teaching in both second and first grades. I have taught first grade for the past 8 years. Robert Frost once said, “I am not a teacher, I am an awakener.” I believe that all individuals have the potential to do wonderful things with their lives, no matter their background. The key is inspiration. Every successful person has had someone who has pointed out what was special and valuable about them. Teaching is not stuffing children full of facts, but rather having the gift to see each child’s potential, encouraging their interests, and guiding their intellect in order to help them achieve their potential. I look forward to helping all of my students reach their very highest potentials.
I also aim to instill a sense of curiosity and wonderment in my students. As a North Texas Master Naturalist, I am passionate about hands-on science and getting students outside! I am very excited about utilizing Hexter’s incredible garden. My husband and I enjoy hiking, camping, and exploring the world with our two young boys every chance we can get.
I am truly looking forward to being a part of the Hexter team!
